MTV VMAs 2023, il meglio della serata e tutti i vincitori (anche Måneskin)

MTV ha annunciato i vincitori dei VMAs 2023, l’evento che si è tenuto martedì 12 settembre 2023 e trasmesso a livello globale sulle piattaforme lineari e digitali di MTV in oltre 150 paesi, raggiungendo oltre 319 milioni di famiglie. Lo show, che ha premiato i video musicali più amati dell’anno appena passato proponendo esibizioni live, tributi e performance con protagoniste le più grandi star della musica internazionale, si è tenuto presso il Prudential Center in New Jersey per il secondo anno consecutivo e per la terza volta negli ultimi cinque anni.

Dopo aver vinto il “Video of the Year” lo scorso anno stabilendo il record per numero di vittorie in questa categoria (3), Taylor Swift si porta a casa 9 premi conferma il proprio posto nella storia dello show di MTV: è l’artista con il maggior numero di vittorie in una sola edizione, mentre è seconda per numero di vittorie complessive. Nel dettaglio, i premi andati a Taylor Swift sono: Video of the Year – “Anti-Hero”, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year – “Anti-Hero”, Song of the Year – “Anti-Hero”, Best Pop – “Anti-Hero”, Best Direction – “Anti-Hero”, Best Cinematography – “Anti-Hero”, Best Visual Effects – “Anti-Hero”, Show of the summer , Album of the year – “Midnights”.
Da segnalare la vittoria dei Måneskin anche quest’anno nella categoria Best Rock, quest’anno per il loro singolo ‘The Loneliest’.

Dopo Taylor Swift che ha guidato la classifica degli artisti con il maggior numero di candidature quest’anno, tra gli artisti più nominati agli MTV VMAs 2023 ricordiamo SZA, Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, Sam Smith, BLACKPINK, Diddy e Shakira. Quest’anno, 35 artisti sono stati candidati per la prima volta ai “VMAs”, tra cui Kim Petras (5 nomination), Metro Boomin (3), Rema (3), Ayra Starr (2), GloRilla (2), Ice Spice (2), Peso Pluma (2), Reneé Rapp (2) e Yung Miami (2), Aespa, Burna Boy, boygenius, FLETCHER, FIFTY FIFTY, Musa Keys, Davido, PinkPantheress, Saucy Santana, Eslabon Armado, JVKE, Lauren Spencer Smith, Stephen Sanchez e Toosii.

Nelle 15 categorie gender-neutral, presente la nuova categoria “Best Afrobeats“. Le votazioni sono rimaste aperte da mercoledì 9 agosto e fino all’1 settembre 2023 sul sito ufficiale vote.mtv.com. Le votazioni per la categoria “Best New Artist” sono rimaste attive anche durante lo spettacolo di martedì 12 settembre.

I presenter

Giovedì 7 settembre 2023, MTV ha annunciato il ritorno di Nicki Minaj nel doppio ruolo di presentatrice e performer, quindi per il secondo anno consecutivo si è occupata di annunciare la lista di artisti, presentatori e vincitori dello show, oltre che di performare sul palco, quest’anno proponendo in anteprima mondiale il suo ultimo singolo, “Last Time I Saw You”. Per quanto riguarda i presenter annunciati dei vari premi: Bebe Rexha, Charli D’Amelio, Coco Jones, Dixie D’Amelio, Emily Ratajkowski, French Montana, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Jared Leto, Madelyn Cline, Rita Ora e Sabrina Carpenter.

I performer 

Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin e Stray Kids sono stati i primi artisti di fama internazionale annunciati il 23 agosto 2023 come performer ai VMAs 2023. Lil Wayne, Anitta, Doja Cat, Kelsea Ballerini e TOMORROW X TOGETHER  sono stati invece annunciati come performer nella giornata dell’1 settembre 2023. Olivia Rodrigo come performer è stata annunciata l’8 settembre 2023. Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Fall Out Boy, Metro Boomin con Future, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Swae Lee & NAV e Peso Pluma sono stati annunciati come performer l’11 settembre 2023.

Demi Lovato, con 14 candidature  ai VMAs raccolte nel corso della sua carriera, ha fatto ritorno sul palco di questo evento per la sua prima esibizione durante lo show dopo 6 anni, pochi giorni prima dell’uscita del suo nuovo album REVAMPED contenente le versioni rock dei suoi singoli più conosciuti. Nelle precedenti edizioni dei VMAs, Demi ha debuttato sul palco nel 2015 con “Cool for the Summer” e si è esibita nel 2017 con “Sorry Not Sorry”, mentre  nel 2012 si è aggiudicata il titolo di “Best Video with a Message”. Quest’anno, Demi è stata candidata in due categorie: “Best Pop” e “Video for Good”.

L’artista colombiana Karol G, prima donna ad aver debuttato al primo posto della classifica Billboard 200 con un album in lingua spagnola, ha performato con la sua “Bichota Season” sul palco dei VMAs 2023, in quella che è stata la sua prima esibizione sul palco dell’evento. L’artista è stata candidata in tre categorie ai VMAs 2023: “Artist of the Year”, “Best Collaboration” e “Best Latin”.

Dopo aver debuttato ai VMAs e in altri award statunitensi nel 2022, la rock band Måneskin ha portato sul palco dei VMAs 2023 il nuovo singolo “Honey (Are You Coming?)”, uscito il 1° settembre. Il loro ultimo album è Rush!. La band, primo gruppo italiano ad aver ricevuto candidature per due edizioni consecutive dei VMAs in una categoria principale, è stata candidata  all’edizione di quest’anno nella categoria “Best Rock”, vincendo il premio.

Sul palco dei VMAs 2023 anche gli Stray Kids, gruppo di K-Pop che ha performato con la canzone “S-CLASS”, tratta dal loro ultimo album 5-STAR. Il gruppo è stato candidato ai VMAs 2023 nella categoria “Best K-Pop”, la stessa che gli è valsa la prima nomination ai VMAs nel 2022.

Lil Wayne, vincitore multi-platino di 5 premi Grammy, ha fatto ritorno sul palco dei VMAs dopo oltre un decennio presentando per la prima volta dal vivo il suo nuovo singolo uscito il 1° settembre, “Kat Food”. Lil Wayne conta una discografia da oltre 120 milioni di dischi venduti in tutto il mondo, tra cui 26 milioni di album. Nel 2022, ha ottenuto il suo primo disco di diamante dalla RIAA con   “Lollipop” featuring Static Major. L’artista, con all’attivo 14 candidature, ha concorso ai VMAs 2023 nella categoria “Best Hip-Hop” per Moon Person, premio che ha vinto già nel 2008.

Anitta ha fatto ritorno sul palco dei VMAs performando quest’anno con un medley di successi tratti dal suo ultimo disco Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story. Lo scorso anno, Anitta ha vinto per la prima volta un premio VMAs come unica brasiliana ad aver mai portato a casa una Moon Person MTV. Quest’anno, Anitta è stata candidata quest’anno nella categoria “Best Latin”.

Doja Cat, 4 volte vincitrice dei “VMAs” e dei Grammy Award, ha fatto ritorno sul palco dei  VMAs dopo la sua partecipazione nel 2012 performando con “Been Like This” e “You Right” e vincendo  nella categoria “Best Collaboration”. Nel 2022, l’artista ha vinto il premio VMAs per “Miglior coreografia”. Quest’anno l’artista, già 23 volte nominata, è stata candidata per 5 premi: Video Of The Year, Artist Of The Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction E Best Art Direction. Nel corso di quest’anno, Doja Cat inizierà il suo tour nordamericano con Ice Spice e Doechii.

Kelsea Ballerini ospite quest’anno per la sua prima volta ai VMAs, ha performato con una versione estesa del suo ultimo EP Rolling Up The Welcome Mat (For Good). Kelsea Ballerini ha debuttato sul palco dei VMAs 2023 lo stesso giorno del suo 30° compleanno (12 settembre).

TOMORROW X TOGETHER (“TXT”) featuring Anitta hanno presentato sul palco dei VMAs 2023 il loro nuovo singolo debuttando ai VMAs come gruppo K-Pop. Il loro terzo album in studio The Name Chapter: FREEFALL è in uscita a ottobre. Il gruppo è stato candidato ai VMAs 2023 nelle categorie “Best K-Pop” e “Push Performance of the Year”.

Olivia Rodrigo si è esibita durante i VMAs 2023, facendo così ritorno su sul palco dei VMAs dopo la pubblicazione del suo secondo album “GUTS”. Olivia Rodrigo ha fatto il suo debutto ai VMAs nel 2021 performando con “good 4 u”. Lo stesso anno, l’ex artista di MTV Push ha pareggiato per il maggior numero di Moon Persons con 3 premi vinti per “Best New Artist”, “Push Artist” e “Song of the Year”. A soli vent’anni, Olivia Rodrigo è la più giovane artista nella storia della Hot 100 ad aver debuttato con tre brani al numero uno. Il suo album ‘SOUR’ è ora 4 volte Platino negli Stati Uniti e ha venduto oltre 17,9 milioni di album a livello globale con oltre 42 miliardi di streaming in tutto il mondo.

Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion hanno ricevuto nel 2021 5 nomination ai VMAs per il loro singolo “WAP” (tra cui “Song of the Summer”, “Video of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, “Best Collaboration” e “Best Hip Hop”), diventato la prima collaborazione rap femminile a debuttare al numero uno della Billboard Hot 100, restando in testa alla classifica per quattro settimane consecutive e ottenendo otto certificazioni platino negli Stati Uniti.

La rock band Fall Out Boy è salita per la prima volta sul palco dei VMAs performando con “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” nel 2005, poi due anni dopo hanno fatto ritorno preformando con “Shut Up And Drive” insieme a Rihanna e con “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs”. Quest’anno ai VMAs la band è stata candidata nelle categorie “Best Visual Effects” e “Best Alternative” per il loro ottavo album in studio 2So Much (For) Stardust”, uscito il 24 marzo scorso. I Fall Out Boy sono attualmente impegnati nel tour mondiale So Much For (Tour) Dust e nel 2024 andrà in tournée So Much For (2our) Dust per 20 tappe negli Stati Uniti.

L’artista e produttore Metro Boomin ha performato per la prima volta ai VMAs 2023 con i suoi brani “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” insieme a Future e “Calling” insieme a A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Swae Lee & NAV, per la prima volta insieme sul palco. Metro Boomin ha ricevuto le sue prime candidature ai VMAs proprio quest’anno, e precisamente nelle categorie “Album of the Year” e “Best Hip-Hop” per “Superhero (Heroes and Villains)” con Future.

Peso Pluma è il cantante e cantautore meglio conosciuto per il suo album di musica messicana “Genesis” ed ha ricevuto la prima posizione nella chart Global Songs of the Summer di Spotify per il brano “Ella Baila Sola” con Eslabon Armado. Ai VMAs 2023, Pluma è salito sul palco per la sua prima esibizione in questo evento, ed è stato candidato in tre categorie: “Best New Artist”, “Best Latin” e “Song of the Summer”.

I performer all’Extended Play Stage

Il programma dell’Extended Play Stage dei VMAs 2023 ha proposto Kaliii, Reneé Rapp e The Warning.
Kaliii è l’artista di MTV Push di agosto 2023 e Amplified Artist di BET di settembre 2023, candidata per la prima volta ai VMAs, concorrendo nella categoria “Best New Artist”.  Kaliii ha recentemente collaborato con le Fifty Fifty per la canzone “Barbie Dreams” dalla colonna sonora del film Barbie.
La cantautrice e attrice Reneé Rapp, dopo aver ottenuto due riconoscimenti quest’anno come “Best New Artist” e “PUSH Performance of the Year” per “Colorado”, è salita sul palco di MTV dopo la pubblicazione dell’LP Snow Angel, pubblicato il 18 agosto scorso e diventato il miglior debutto di un album di un’artista femminile del 2023, ad oggi.
The Warning, la rock-band composta da tre sorelle nate e cresciute in Messico, ha fatto il suo debutto televisivo sul palco dei VMAs 2023 dopo aver aperto concerti di Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, MUSE e altri.

Shakira è stata la prima artista sudamericana a ricevere il Video Vanguard Award di MTV, in occasione dei MTV VMAs 2023 [ARTICOLO].

A Sean “Diddy” Combs il Global Icon Award

Il 5 settembre 2023, MTV ha annunciato non solo l’esibizione di Sean “Diddy” Combs ai VMAs 2023 ma anche l’assegnazione all’artista del Global Icon Award “per la sua ineguagliabile carriera e la sua continua influenza che lo ha portato ad un successo globale senza pari nella musica e non solo.”. Questo premio celebra un artista o una band la cui carriera e la cui influenza hanno raggiunto un livello unico di successo globale nella musica e non solo.
Contando due album al primo posto della classifica Billboard 200 e cinque singoli al primo posto della Billboard Hot 100, Sean “Diddy” Combs ha fatto ritorno sul palco di MTV per la prima volta dopo la sua ultima esibizione ai VMAs risalente al 2005, diciotto anni fa, dirigendo un’orchestra con Snoop Dogg ed una performance video di Notorious B.I.G., mentre la sua prima volta sul palco deVMAs risale al 1997 con la performance di “Mo Money Mo Problems”. Diddy ha anche presentato gli MTV Europe Music Award 2002 in Spagna. Ai VMAs 2023, Combs ha ricevuto 4 candidature per il suo lavoro su “Creepin” (Remix) e “Gotta Move On”, e in particolare 2 candidature per le categorie”Best Collaboration“, oltre a “Best Rap” e “Best R&B“. Nella prima edizione dell’evento di MTV in cui è stato candidato, Diddy ha vinto un Moonman per il “Best R&B Video” (1997) e poi il premio “Viewer’s Choice” (1998).

La conduzione del pre-show dei VMAs 2023, in onda in diretta da 00:30 su MTV (canale Sky 131 NOW) e su MTV Music (canale Sky 132 e 704) per 90 minuti circa, è stata affidata a Saweetie (vincitrice dei VMAs del 2021 per “Best Art Direction” insieme a Doja Cat) insieme a Nessa, Dometi Pongo e Kevan Kenney.
