TRAMA

Un bimbo è stato rapito di notte dal suo letto. Benson e Stabler pensano sia opera di un padre impegnato in una battaglia per la custodia. Ma l'ipotesi non regge.

A child is kidnapped. The SVU detectives, at first, theorize this is a custody battle gone wrong. When that doesn't pan out, their attentions turn to a murder in a grocery store, close to where the child was taken. A store worker, wounded during the crime, tells Benson and Stabler that a homeless man who worked in the store was his attacker and the kidnapper of the boy. The homeless man turns out to be a schizophrenic who deludely believes the child is own son. Benson and Stabler track down the man, but he does not have the kid with him at the time of the take down. In nterrogating him, Stabler is frustrated by the suspect's complete lack of coherence. Desperate to find the boy, Stabler manipulates a situation that causes the man to act out violently, thus causing Huang to give him the drugs necessary to make him more lucid. This leads to clues that help the detectives find the missing boy, but also jeopardizes the careers of both Stabler and Huang in the process. When the homeless man speaks of a murder at his prior halfway house, Stabler is given a chance to redeem himself. His investigation leads to the fact that the halfway house administration did in fact cause the death of a former patient and when the schizophrenic at the center of the story threatened to go to the police, they turned him out into the street without is meds- thus the reason for his violent actions. Stabler makes up for his past misdeeds by reuniting the man with his true son, lost to him during a bitter divorce.
