TRAMA
Il team indaga sull'omicidio di un giovane blogger. Un amico della vittima, che confessa di aver inventato un algoritmo in grado di produrre canzoni, aiuta la squadra a trovare il colpevole.
Some risks, like jumping out of a moving car, not paying your taxes, or drag racing, are crazy. Yet some risks are calculated. Walter and his team get themselves in hot water in their attempt to find who murdered a local music blogger. Meanwhile, Paige tries to cope with her son's newfound relationship with his father and Walter gets out his pent up frustration about young Ralph's father/son reunion in an unhealthy display of aggression –racing cars. At the scene of the crime, Scorpion finds a strange mathematical equation on a white board. What does it mean? The geniuses discover that it's a hidden code, leading them to Peyton Temple, a friend of the victim. But is Peyton really a friend? Or is he the killer? Scorpion tracks him down to investigate. After questioning Peyton, they realize that this guy is no killer. He's devastated over the loss of his friend. And Peyton explains that the mathematical equation was actually a formula, designed to produce hit songs. Peyton didn't want to release the formula, since manufactured hits aren't real music, but someone stole the hit-making code from his hard drive and several hit songs were then created. Walter gets a list of the top songs created by this code. Toby is especially upset at the idea of man-made music. What if Springsteen is on this short list of fake music? What about Jack Black? Fortunately, those two musicians are self-made hit-makers, but among the phony artists, there's one person who manages three of them. Happy realizes that any manager connected to these artists probably made a lot of money off this formula. So he or she would definitely have a strong motive to harm anyone willing to get between him and the hit making mathematics. When their informant, Peyton, is suddenly drugged and abducted, Scorpion must break into the manager's hotel room to save him. Walter and Happy are able to drag Peyton safely out when Toby sacrifices himself, staying behind and acting like a crazed music fan who just broke in. They all narrowly escape, but something in their van seems strange. Minutes after they get out, the van explodes. Cabe warns them that this killer might be more than even Scorpion can handle. Scorpion persists, eventually narrowing down their suspect to the manager's security guards. Walter and Toby end up face to face with the killer guards, but they're soon trapped with them in an elevator. Luckily, Happy puts her mechanical genius to work, taking over the elevator's controls and causing it to careen down at an impressive speed. Walter and Toby are safe, because they were prepared for Happy's trick. Yet the security guards were taken by surprise, so they're definitely worse for wear and easily brought to justice. In the glow of their success, Walter is able to give Ralph's dad some advice on how to interact with a genius son. And Toby almost gets up the nerve to ask Happy out on a date, but sadly Peyton beats him to it. In the end, Scorpion used their smarts to mitigate the dangers, bringing the blogger's killer to justice. They learned that sometimes, doing something crazy is just that nuts. But sometimes, taking a big risk pays off.
