TRAMA
Hetty Lange, capo del team NCIS di Los Angeles, aiuta la squadra Scorpion in un caso di frode che riguarda un quadro dal valore inestimabile.
Walter is a genius – but his emotional intelligence could use some work. This week, we first join Scorpion at the end of a very botched mission. There's a burning car, chicken feathers are flying and worst of all, Scorpion ruined the very piece of artwork they were trying to protect. As a consequence of their incompetence, all of Scorpion is forced to sit down one by one with a psychologist for a mental evaluation. Flashing back to the start of the mission, Scorpion is charged with retrieving a priceless work of art and returning it to its original owners. At first Walter can't grasp the value of a painting. It's paint on canvas. What's the big deal? But Paige tries to explain the importance– it was stolen from a Jewish family before they were killed in World War II and their ancestors have been trying to retrieve the heirloom ever since. When the gang goes to an Art Museum to see the painting, Walter makes a bold move. Without warning, he takes out a pocket knife and slices the painting, on suspicion that it's a forgery. While the sliced art revealed nothing unscrupulous underneath, Happy and the gang are able to prove that it is indeed a fake, since the paint is newer than the origination date. Yet, Walter's inability to gauge social cues continues to get him into trouble. Through his sleuthing, Sylvester finds their first prospect. An artist who works at Sylvester's favorite company, Galactic toys. That type of business would have everything an artist would need to make a forgery. But when their boss, Cabe Gallo, enters the building, someone else jumps out a nearby window and runs. That's their suspect. Happy drives the crew to stop him. They corner the artist and find out he did indeed make a forgery. But he was paid to do it. Painting a copy isn't illegal. Selling it and passing it off as the original is the problem. Now Scorpion must track down the wealthy man who hired the artist, Mr. Labeaux. Now the crew decides to go against Cabe's orders, crash Mr. Labeaux's party and intercept the painting, before it's sold and lost forever. Happy and Toby pose as waiters to get into the wine cellar, which Toby is sure is a cover for stolen art. Sylvester is in the van. And Walter and Paige are all dressed up, ready to scope out the premises at the party. Walter has a timer, scheduled to go off at the moment they're supposed to leave. In the wine cellar, Toby shakes a wall of wine, certain there's a hidden door behind it. Instead, the wine crashes to the ground, falling on him. Their cover is blown. Walter and Paige have to get out of there, fast. Outside the party, Happy controls another suspect's car. She cuts the engine, and then raises the car's internal temperature, forcing him to get out. Scorpion is confident that the stolen artwork is in this guy's trunk. Unfortunately, the car suddenly bursts into flames, destroying the artwork with it. Gallo chalks this up to another screw up by his band of geniuses. They all pass psychological evaluation, but they still have some learning to do. During her one-on-one interview with Walter, it's the psychologist who cracks the case. Walter and Paige weren't accidentally late leaving the party. Walter planned it. He reset his timer when it went off, because he wanted to keep dancing with Paige. Walter may be emotionally stifled but it looks like Paige is slowly opening him up. In the end, Scorpion didn't screw up the mission. The painting in the burning car was actually a fake, planted by Scorpion. They kept the original, returning it to its family owners. Their boss doesn't know the full story. But Scorpion focused on what was really important - returning something priceless to its intended home.
