TRAMA
Un blackout potrebbe far schiantare diversi aerei: la Homeland Security degli Stati Uniti incarica Walter O'Brien di formare un team di super-geni per risolvere la situazione di emergenza.
When we first meet Scorpion, things aren't going well. They're all geniuses but they're so smart, they forget the basic stuff – like finding well-paid work and paying their bills. Walter – the smartest of the bunch, is the most underemployed, installing wireless systems into local businesses. It looks like they're going to be thrown out on the street, until they're visited by Agent Gallo, (Robert Patrick of Terminator fame), a Homeland Security officer. Gallo first met Walter years ago, when Walter was a smart, cocky and almost incarcerated 11 year-old. Now Gallo desperately needs these brilliant outcasts to prevent 56 planes from crashing into LAX. Somehow, the computer systems at all 3 LA airports: LAX, Burbank and Long Beach, got corrupted. All the passengers onboard these planes will surely die unless the Scorpion crew can figure out a way to get the uncorrupted software back onto each plane, ensuring a safe landing. With traffic shut down, there's no way to get to LAX, but Walter knows a place with great wireless – because he just set it up. It's a diner where he meets Paige (Katharine McPhee), a kind waitress with a son, Ralph (Riley B. Smith) that Walter recognizes as a fellow genius. Scorpion pulls a lot of tricks out of their sleeve to communicate with one of the planes that has the uncorrupted software. Almost all passengers will have their smart phones off during a flight – since that's regulation. But Toby realizes that an older passenger with an older phone might have left his on. Toby reaches a middle-aged salesman on one of the flights, explaining the urgency and asking that he speak to the pilot. Now that Toby can communicate with the pilot, he asks that they send the file with the older, uncorrupted software to Walter, so it can be forwarded to LAX mission control and all 56 planes can safely land. The problem is – wireless isn't working. If you thought your wifi cord was too short – imagine if you had to go from your laptop to a flying plane! Through some moves straight out of Mission Impossible, Walter is able to download the system file by driving under a very low flying plane, while a terrified but determined Paige holds the connected laptop in the air. Walter successfully downloads the uncorrupted software, sends it to mission control and saves 56 plane-loads of people. Agent Gallo is so pleased by their success, that he offers them all jobs with Homeland Security. Well-paid jobs – where you can keep the lights on. That's the thing about hackers. If they're smart enough to get into NASA's top-secret systems at age 11, they don't belong in jail. They belong on the payroll.
